Today is Monumental.
It’s not everyday that you finish something you’ve been working on for 4 years… Today, It is with great pride and accomplishment that I officially announce after 1460 days of passionately driven hard work from myself and many, particularly after two very long, reclusive years in post-production- my first feature-length film has finally been completed!! 91 glorious minutes of homegrown independent filmmaking featuring some of the most talented individuals I know, lay nestled in a sector of my hard drive, waiting to be uploaded to the servers of it’s first film festivals: Burbank IFF, Toronto IFF, and FANtastic Fest. This is truly the birth of something great and I am thrilled to share it with the world and all of those involved!
I never really knew when this day would officially come... I've set many deadlines for myself during post-production over the last 2 years (Most of which I have met), but the final cut always seemed so far away due to my being a perfectionist and simply because I was one person taking on the role of many. The more time that passed and festivals come and gone, I felt a tremendous pressure to spend every waking moment (when I wasn't paying the bills) to make THE DRIFTER everything it could be. I was also very fortunate to have almost 5 full months to compose an original soundtrack with the very talented Matt Duncan.
Toward the end of the process I’ve been able to step back a get a better perspective on the situation. When I compared this film’s journey to that of a studio film with a $100M budget and hundreds of people on payroll…. They STILL take AT LEAST 1 year in post and 2-3 years of production in total, from concept to completion. So... For being one man with a dream, a team of ambitious filmmakers, and only $15,000, I know our time table was just fine, and for sure well spent.
THE BIGGEST "THANK YOU" TO DATE to everyone involved in making this film a reality. As I’ve said before, and will always take the time to acknowledge, this would not have been possible without all of the love and support from those who believe in my team and I, this movie, and our dreams. Our family, friends, and fans: THANK YOU! and get excited for more information on local screenings, and news on the film festival circuit!
Over the next few weeks, I will be submitting to more festivals, executing plans for other outlets of distribution, producing marketing materials, and fulfilling donation perks, to name a few... The work never stops, but today I open a whole new chapter of my life, the life of this film, those involved, and all of the exciting things that will come from all of our hard work!
Keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as we embark.
Stay tuned for more.
